eneral efficiency

(8). Owing to want of transport for the 10 pars no exercise in

occupation of or change of position was carried out during the

practice, There was a tendency to unnecessarily crowd the guna,

this is a bad mistake, The howitsers were used as guns of positie)

tion and fired from a position allotted to them on mobilization.

(9). The Range Finding was slow and at times inaccurate. The

Range Takers require more practics at taking ranges from

difficult positions. The selection of the best place from which

to take the range requires consideration, and the fact that two

men manipulating a nekoneter in a conspicuous position is likely

to give information to a vigilant enemy as to the presence of

artillery and the position of the B.C. appears to be overlooked.

(10). There was a very marked improvement in the general

efficiency even during the three days practice, which indicates

that with sufficient training and gun practice the personnel of

the batteries is capable of becoming thoroughly efficient.

One short practice camp in the year is inadequate for the

purpose. If more ammunition could be made available and two

Practice Camps formed in the year I am convinced that the

fighting efficiency would be improved by at least fifty per cent.

All ranks showed great keenness, desire to learn and capability

of benifiting by ariticisms.
